Since the new academic year, the library collections of the Library of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Library of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry are located in one place. Students and academics of both faculties have all library services available at one desk in the existing Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Library. Thanks to the space changes, students can also enjoy a larger number of study places.
Over the summer, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Library and the Faculty of Health Sciences Library underwent a reorganisation and relocation of books in order to move the book collections of both libraries to one place, namely the current Faculty of Medicine Library. The decision resulted from a long-standing situation where the original location of the Faculty of Health Sciences Library in the magazine study room of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Library had become unsatisfactory over the years. The operation was uneconomical and inefficient. It has not been possible to systematically develop the library collection or library services for students to keep up with the latest trends.
"The library collection of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences is one-quarter identical, so it is logical that the books are located in the same place. Information services for academic staff and students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically for example, the processing of research, consultations and training focused on working with electronic information resources, etc., will be provided by one professional librarian dedicated to the Faculty of Health Sciences. This way, users will not lose these services, on the contrary, it will be possible to offer them more efficiently and with better quality," explains Helena Sedláčková, the director of the Palacký University Library, adding that library services such as lending and returning books, printing and copying will be provided to students of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences at the same lending desk in the space of the current Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Library. For easier and faster orientation, the shelves with books from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences are visually differentiated. "The books from the Faculty of Health Sciences Library are in metal shelves, while the books from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Library are in wooden shelves," Sedláčková adds.
On the site of the original Faculty of Health Sciences Library, a new study room with more than thirty study places was created for students of both faculties. Students can also continue to use the relaxation area with comfortable sofas and seating bags. One of the great advantages of the connection of the two libraries is that future doctors and health professionals can meet in one place, discuss with each other and thus develop and deepen cooperation between the medical and health disciplines.
